A person who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys who were nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at the facility in July.
The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.
The accused was held in detention ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.
The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the boys "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained Ruben had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his stepchild had worries about the situation, with valid cause.
"They decided to examine in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel stated objects including baby oil, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his suspicions.
She explained Ruben continued to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that stage," she continued.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
Mrs Prior stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the family member contacted the authorities a second time.
She said the man then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
