It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
